Mountains

Certainly the most spectacular mountain in Tanzania as well as in the whole continent, as it is the highest mountain massif of Africa with 5895 meters, is Mount Kilimanjaro. In second place, Mount Meru, with its 4562 meters is not a dwarf to mention. An area that should not be underestimated is the Usambara Mountains. The Eldorado for hikers, probably better known by the African violets, is a mountainous area in the north-east of Tanzania that is rather undeveloped by tourists. (Picture above)

Mount Kilimanjaro

The Kilimanjaro massif is located in northeastern Tanzania near the Kenyan border and about 350km south of the equator. The area around the Kilimanjaro enjoys great popularity with tourists and nature lovers. There are 5 different routes to choose in order to get to the peak (Uhuru Peak), depending on preference and time. Summiteers wander through the most varied vegetation stages - from rainforest through heathland and alpine desert to the glacier zone. 30 km away Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Mount Meru

Not far from the colossus (70km southwest) lies his "little brother", Mount Meru, at 4562 meters. For advanced mountaineers or even complete beginners a great spot because the mountain slope does not require special technical requirements. With a little surefootedness the ascent of the mountain is possible in about 3-4 days. For professionals or ambitious mountaineers who want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, his little neighbor offers good acclimatization.
